With a heat wave leading to a cooler period the 2008 harvest is coming in very smoothly up in Mendocino. We’ve already brought in our Fairbairn Ranch Syrah along with Chardonnay for our Ukiah Cellars label. Looking forward to some very concentrated and well balanced wines in the months ahead. The Demeter Biodynamic Trade Association (DBTA) has launched a new website as a resource for all things Biodynamic. This is a great source to address questions about the meaning of terms and certifiication standards and producers. Check back often for updates and events.
Todays front page article in the Press Democrat describes research findings from Greg Jones at Southern Oregon State University along with anecdotal evidence from winegrowers in inland Mendocino that seasonal temperature patterns are shifting to favor high quality winegrowing. I thought the article was interesting because it draws on both academic research and observations from long time growers like Charlie Barra. Of course we like the idea of Mendocino begining to get it’s due respect in the winegrowing world as well :-)
